Scrowns – Metalhead Font

Scrowns is a metal logo font through and through. Rony Rizki Jaya of Ronny Studio drew each letter with jagged spikes and drips along both edges, so a word set in it looks carved or burned rather than typed. The forms are heavier and more readable than a lot of black metal logos, which helps for album titles and merch.

The specimens show it on a vinyl sleeve for “Brocken” and over live band photos for “Sickness”. The full font includes upper and lowercase, numbers, punctuation, ligatures and alternates, with multilingual support. The free files here come as OTF, TTF and WOFF.

Best uses for Scrowns

  • Metal and hardcore band logos
  • Album and EP covers
  • Horror film and Halloween posters
  • Band T-shirts and patches
  • Gaming clan logos

Font pairings

Scrowns needs a plain partner for gig details and track lists. Oswald is tall and strong for dates and venues. Roboto Condensed works for small text. For a second gothic touch, Pirata One is readable in short lines.

Scrowns – Metalhead Font FAQ

Can my band use Scrowns font for our logo?

A band logo used on merch and releases is commercial use, so you need a licence from Ronny Studio. The free file is for personal projects only.

What free font is similar to Scrowns?

Metal Mania and New Rocker are open-licence fonts with a metal look. They are tamer than Scrowns but free for any use.

How do I make a Scrowns logo look more custom?

Use the alternates and ligatures from the Glyphs panel, then convert the text to outlines and stretch or overlap a few spikes by hand. Most metal logos are finished this way.
