Futura was designed by the German type designer Paul Renner and released by the Bauer Type Foundry in 1927. Renner built it from basic shapes: the O is close to a perfect circle, the A, M and N have sharp pointed apexes, and the lowercase has tall ascenders that rise well above the capitals.
The specimen on this page shows two weights of the full alphabet, numerals and punctuation. Look at the lowercase a, a single round bowl with a straight stem. That plain, geometric logic is why Futura has been used on everything from car badges to the plaque left on the Moon by Apollo 11.

Futura Font Family
Futura, designed by Bauer Type Foundry in 1928 is actually considered as the basis of Germany’s Constructivist movement within the Bauhaus movement. Paul Renner an American type designer, painter, author, and an educator made his first designs on the basic geometric shapes of triangles, circles and squares. Design office Bauer helped Renner in the process of transforming these geometric shapes into strong types of fonts such as Futura.
In the course of time Renner made modifications that made Futura fonts even simpler for his readers. Futura has long ascenders and descenders and this makes it utilize much of the spacing between lines so that it can accommodate long ascenders and descenders to the maximum. Due to the different styles and weights that are available, Futura family is very diverse and can be used in many applications.
