Courier is a monospaced slab serif typeface that was developed by Howard “Bud” Kettler, who was born in 1919 and died in 1999. It was originally created for IBM typewriters but is now widely used as a font on computers and can be found on almost every system. IBM did not seek to trademark Courier, making both its design and concept open source. Some sources suggest that Adrian Frutiger worked with IBM to develop newer Selectric typewriters, while Paul Shaw has hinted that people may have mistaken a version he designed for the Univers typeface as being associated with this system.Additionally, there has been controversy regarding when Courier first entered the market; it may have been released in either 1955 or 1956.
It is intended for personal use only.
